(LifeSiteNews) – A retired Canadian police officer believes he was wiretapped for taking part in the Canadian Freedom Convoy in February.

Last month Rob Stocki, a New Blue party candidate, received a May 18 letter from the Attorney General of Ontario that said he had been “the object of interception” between February 18 and 19, 2022.

The retired officer explained to Rebel News that this meant “the police wiretapped me under the Criminal Code … for participating in the Freedom Convoy.”

According to Rebel News’  David Menzies, Ontario criminal law stipulates that a subject of wiretapping has to be informed that they were tapped.

Menzies asked Stocki why he was tapped, and he replied: “Well, if you look at the letter… there is no reason provided. It just says that I was the subject of a wiretap.”

The letter said that Stocki had been wiretapped under section 188 of the Criminal Code of Ontario.

“If you look at the actual section that I was wiretapped under,” he said, “I was wiretapped under a section of exigent circumstances.”

“The circumstances were so urgent and so worrisome about criminal activity that the government did not have time… to qualify all the potential issues… it was allowed to be done ex parte.”

Ex parte means that “there is no defence, there is no one to hear the opposite side of why this wiretap is taking place,” Stocki added.

Defending himself, Stocki said: “I am not involved in any criminal activity, I have done nothing wrong, I am very conscientious about the things I say and do, both word and deed…”

In contrast, he has “watched the media, the legacy media … completely lie about what actually took place on Parliament Hill.”

Not only was Stocki’s phone wiretapped, but all his electronic communications, including his social media, were under surveillance.

According to his biography on the New Blue website, Stocki “served with distinction” and “conducted a number of high-profile community projects which received national attention.”

He also “earned a number of Chiefs Commendations for exemplary service, as well as countless letters and commendations from supervisors and members of the public.”

Speaking from his years of experience as a police officer, Stocki said that the sort of wiretap he was subject to is traditionally reserved for “homicide. You are talking about high-level criminal activity, organized crime, et cetera.”

Stocki believes that “illegal wiretaps [are] going on where nobody is notified.”

He said he is “speaking with a lawyer right now” to see if there is a legal way forward to find out what happened.

He urged Canadians to “not be afraid” in the face of government overreach in their lives if they have done nothing wrong.
