ROCHESTER, New York, May 26, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An Eckerd pharmacist is being criticized by a patron for failing to fill her prescription for the morning-after pill.

An Eckerd pharmacist told the woman that “we have [the morning-after pill] in stock but based on my moral and religious belief I will not give it to you,” according to the woman who was refused the prescription. She told a local news source, 8 ON YOUR SIDE, that she preferred they not reveal her identity.  Monroe County Medical Society president-elect Dr. Robert Holzhaver claimed that the morning-after pill “. . .is not a chemical abortion, does not affect a fetus that’s been planted,” according to 8 ON YOUR SIDE.  Pharmacists for Life International President Karen Brauer told 8 ON YOUR SIDE, “If morality and ethics don’t impinge on professional life, there’s no use for it. It is not the purpose of any medical professional to be killing humans,” she asserted, “that’s not a medical function.”“That’s ok for them,” the unidentified woman said,” but they have no right to make the decision for someone else.”  Eckerd officials said that the pharmacist’s actions were not in contravention of company policy, because the woman was directed to another pharmacy for her prescription to be filled.  Read related LifeSiteNews.com coverage:  Texas Pharmacists Fired by Eckerd Corporation for Ethical Stand on Morning After Pill https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/feb/04021206.html Jewish Pharmacist Fired For Refusing To Sell Condoms https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2000/feb/00020803.html
