(LifeSiteNews) — Recent convert to Christianity Russell Brand spoke about his spiritual “journey” with Tucker Carlson in Arizona last week.

Their conversation in front of a live audience was the first in what is a 16-city tour for Carlson, who is visiting key battleground states with various political figures on the right, including Vivek Ramaswamy, Donald Trump Jr., Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, and Tulsi Gabbard.

Brand is probably most well-known for his eccentric public appearances in Hollywood movies and on MTV decades ago. A one-time Buddhist, he made headlines in January when he announced that he wears a crucifix and is seeking a “personal relationship” with God. He has since been baptized and often references Catholic as well as Protestant authors on his hit podcast Stay Free with Russell Brand, which has over 1.8 million subscribers on Rumble, making it one of the most watched shows on the platform.

Carlson, who is Anglican, asked Brand about how he arrived where he is now. Brand called his conversion an “apostasy” from “materialism.” He revealed that his wife and father-in-law are Catholics and that he was a “narcissistic nitwit” in his youth. He further admitted to seeking pleasure in all sorts of false gods – impurity, drug abuse, and the like. But he has since come to realize that “worshipping myself” was “deep foolishness” and that “suffering” helped him understand the need that the “old man has to die” so Christ “may be reborn” in us.

“If we don’t make our body a temple for His dwelling, it will be a dwelling place for the enemy,” he stated.

Brand also spoke about politics in light of spiritual realities. He said that “Satan is in control of this world” and that although Big Tech can censor speech to try to control people, the message of Christianity can be also spread on those platforms to counter their diabolical efforts.

“If the people are guided by God, if all of us are attempting … through our community to connect with God, then it’s more likely that we will create communities and states and nations and a planet of peace and prosperity from the bottom up; not from the top down, not like the imposition of power structures.”

Two moments in particular during Brand’s conversation with Carlson went viral on social media. One was when he was asked by Carlson when he “chose” to follow Christ. Brand responded by stating that it was more of a “surrender” because “Christ chooses us. We have been chosen. I wish I had known earlier. I wish I hadn’t thought that I was too clever for the religion of my grandmothers. I thought that I was too smart.”

Another inspiring moment occurred at the end of their hour-long conversation when Carlson asked Brand to close in prayer. An eager Brand leapt from his chair, barefoot, got on his knees and implored God to watch over the coming election. He also asked that “the dark and demonic forces that appear to operate at the level of the state — the Deep State and the corporate and global world — experience your light, Lord.”

As LifeSiteNews previously reported, Brand has told his viewers that he prays the Rosary daily. He also released two videos announcing he gave up sugar and complaining for Lent this past year.
