LOS ANGELES, Apr 9 (LSN) – ABC’s 20/20 will air an interview tomorrow (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) with Efren Saldivar, a respiratory care practitioner at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, who recently confessed to 40 to 50 “mercy-killings,” and then recanted. Saldivar claims that he wanted to receive the death penalty, as part of a bizarre suicide plot. He says he wanted to die and didn’t have the courage to kill himself.

Trying to explain some of the convincing aspects of his earlier confession, Saldivar claims he cried while confessing because he realized he was ending his own life. Commenting on a co-worker’s discovery of a powerful paralyzing agent and morphine in his locker, Saldivar now claims the drugs were for his own suicide.
