NEW YORK, May 27, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The next battle between homosexual activists and the Christian majority in the US will be fought over hiring policies in New York. New York City is set to pass a law to force entities with city contracts to adopt same-sex benefits in their hiring policies. The Salvation Army, with city contracts worth upwards of $250 million, is preparing to fight the law change. The next battle between homosexual activists and the Christian majority in the US will be fought over hiring policies in New York.

The Salvation Army is one of the largest social services organizations in the city serving more than 5 million people annually. The Army runs hundreds of soup kitchens, homeless shelters and addiction programs and will be forced to seek alternative funding or walk away from its charitable work if the city tries to force it to abandon its Christian principles. Said one spokesman for the Army, “The Army will not change its policy. You cannot change theological views. Those are so deeply embedded, they form the root of the faith itself.”  Mayor Michael Bloomberg does not support the bill but there is enough support to overturn a veto. Pro-family activists have been predicting that the suppression of religious freedoms would result from government support for same sex unions. Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council said that this fight between the Salvation Army and New York City is illustrative. “The bottom line,” says Perkins, “is that religious organizations will either be forced to compromise their moral principles, or the neediest people in our nation’s cities will be deprived of the effective services faith-based organizations can provide.”  This legal challenge to the national charity organization that has helped millions, follows the trend of the past few years to also force another prominent national service organization, the Boy Scouts of America, to also change its policy of prohibiting homosexual scout leaders or members from its ranks. US volunteer scout organizations, for generations dedicated to helping millions of boys and girls, have recently been subjected to increasing legal challenges and withdrawal of funds in many jurisdictions for their faithfulness to their founding moral principles.  See LifeSiteNews.com’s “The Inherent Racism of Population Control” and it expose of influential, militantly anti-religious organizations and individuals who advocate the Malthusian and eugenic principle that works of charity are a waste and only perpetuate the propagation of the poor and lower classes:  https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/may/040518a.html
