SAN DIEGO, November 13, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The so-called Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund is declaring Bonnie Dumanis, 50, a California state judge, to be the first “openly gay district attorney in the United States” after last Tuesday’s elections.  “I think this was more about my opponent than it was about me,” Dumanis said. “The message was: It was time for a change.” Former district attorney Paul Pfingst’s office boasted a high conviction rate but was tainted with ethics scandals including accusations of anti-Semitism. But Dumanis, whose attempted suicide 17 years ago was exposed during the campaign, also declared herself “proud and pleased to be a part of the gay community.”  The “Victory Fund,” based in Washington, D.C., launched a nationwide campaign for donations, drawing $11,000 from its members, according to spokesman Jason Young.  For newswire coverage see:  https://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20021113/ap_wo_en_po/us_san_diego_prosecutor_1
