SAN FRANCISCO, February 1, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, has found himself in a political firestorm amid revelations of having an affair with his campaign manager’s wife, an affair that came in the wake of a marriage that fell apart while Newsom was advocating his notorious anti-marriage homosexual agenda.

City Hall sources informed the San Francisco Chronicle that Newsom’s re-election campaign manager, Alex Tourk, resigned yesterday after confronting the mayor about an affair Newsom had with his wife while she worked as an employee in the mayor’s office. Alex Tourk “expressed his feeling about the situation in an honest and pointed manner, and resigned,” one source close to Tourk and his wife told the Chronicle.

Ruby Rippey-Tourk, who worked in Newsom’s office as his appointment’s secretary from 2004 to last spring, told her husband that Newsom and she had a short lived affair 18 months ago, while the mayor was undergoing a divorce from his wife, Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle. Sources with direct knowledge of Wednesday’s meeting told the Chronicle the revelation was part of Ruby’s rehabilitation program for substance abuse.

Newsom admitted the affair today and apologized for a “personal lapse of judgment” saying he was sorry for letting the people of San Francisco down.

However, the affair may cast light on Mayor Newsom’s notorious decision back in February 2004 to legalize same-sex “marriage” in San Francisco. Just a month after his wife left him in January in that year to live in New York pursuing her career as a television news analyst, Newson ordered the City Hall to modify “forms and documents used to apply for and issue marriage licenses” for use by same-sex couples.

By January 2005, the Newsom’s announced they were filing for divorce after 3 years of marriage on account of their transcontinental separation. The affair with Tourk’s wife took place afterwards. The divorce was finalized February 28, 2006.

Newson previously derided California State law explicitly defining marriage as an act between a man and a woman as “codified discrimination”. He made sure nearly 4,000 marriage licenses were given to same-sex couples between February 12 and March 11, 2004 until the California Supreme Court ruled against him and nullified the illegal “marriages.”

A self-styled “Roman Catholic”, Newsom has criticized the Vatican’s position on homosexual “marriage” and adoptions as “corroding and divisive,” and suggested the Vatican needed to move beyond “stale and questionable documents” if it wanted the Church to evolve.

Prominent Orthodox Rabbi Yehuda Levin told LifeSiteNews.com in a previous interview that the threat to the traditional family was coming not only from homosexual activists, but from “homosexualists, meaning people who are not necessarily homosexual but are pushing the agenda,  because somehow it gives them a kosher stamp of approval to be involved in heterosexual misbehaviour.”
