SARNIA, Ontario, April 9, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A pro-life ad which reads, “9 months. The length of time an abortion is allowed in Canada,” has been removed from six Sarnia Transit city buses after one complaint by a teenager attending a local school.
The Sarnia Observer reported that Miranda Domingue, a student at St. Francis Xavier School, complained in a letter to the paper that she was “outraged” that the city appears to be endorsing a pro-life position by allowing the sign on city buses, and wants Sarnia Transit to apologize.
“These views do not reflect the City of Sarnia,” she said. “But you could be under that impression, looking at the signs. The signs are hurtful.”
Transit officials responded by immediately removing the signs, pending a “review of the complaint.”
Sarnia Transit manager Jim Stevens said it is city policy to review all controversial material, but noted that, “This is the first complaint we’ve had in four or five years.”
Domingue also said she saw a sign that said “God does not exist” on a Sarnia bus, possibly referring to the atheist bus ad campaign which actually says, in part, “There probably is no God,” but Stevens said they have no record of this ad on Sarnia Transit buses.
