MONTREAL, May 26 (LSN) – Nearly 100 students were arrested yesterday in a protest against Canada's involvement in the Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI). The protest was held outside a Montreal hotel, where an MAI meeting was being held.  Concerned citizens have begun to voice opposition to the international business deal, which would require Canada to treat foreign investors the same as local companies. Critics fear the deal would amount to a serious erosion of Canadian sovereignty. In addition to economic policies, key cultural and social policies might also be affected, because of the heavy involvement by multinational corporations in matters such as health care and the media.
