WASHINGTON, DC, August 18, 2018, (LifeSiteNews) – Amid outraged calls for his resignation over recent revelations about his mishandling of priest sexual abuse, Washington DC’s Cardinal Donald Wuerl has canceled his scheduled keynote address at the upcoming World Meeting of Families in Dublin, Ireland.

Wuerl was slated to speak about “The Welfare of the Family is Decisive for the Future of the World.”

Earlier this week, a Pennsylvania Grand Jury found that as bishop of Pittsburgh, Wuerl covered up sexual abuse and shuffled predatory priests between parishes, endangering the safety of children.

Wuerl’s exit from the high-profile Vatican-sponsored event follows on the heels of fellow American Cardinal Sean O’Malley’s withdrawal from the event in order to deal with sex abuse accusations at his St. John’s Seminary.  It had also recently been revealed that O’Malley had fundraised and traveled with disgraced, former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick after his office received a letter warning of the disgraced now ex-cardinal’s predation.

LifeSiteNews has launched a petition urging Cardinal Donald Wuerl to resign as archbishop of Washington D.C.
