WASHINGTON, Jan 12, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The National Post reports today that on Wednesday the American secret service staged a simulated assassination attempt against the presidential motorcade. The simulation went so far as to fire a mock missile at the limousine. Given the amount of hatred directed toward President-Elect George Bush during the presidential campaign as well as the election fiasco in Florida, the elaborate preparations by the secret service for the Jan 20 inauguration day celebration may be justified.

Anti-Bush activist groups are predicting some 50,000 protesters. The Post reports that “the Jan. 20 inauguration has, for the first time, been designated a national security event, which means Secret Service agents will have to look out for the public as well as the president and senior officials who are normally their charges.” Various groups have commenced prayer campaigns for the safety of President-Eelct Bush and his staff.
