LONDON, Sept 28 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The parents of the joined Siamese twins Jodie and Mary announced through their lawyer today that they are unable to take this case further. Last week the British Court of Appeal unanimously (3-0) agreed with a High Court ruling ordering the twins be separated against their parents wishes even though the action will cause the death of at least one of the children. The parents, devout Catholics from the Mediterranean island of Gozo, near Malta, wanted to leave the decision to take the life of the child to “God’s will”. The Catholic Church and pro-life groups, who say both infants must be treated equally, are supporting the parents.

The parents’ lawyer, John Kitchingman, said, “The parents, having taken this case to two courts before four judges, whose decision was unanimous, feel that they have done the best they can for both daughters and are unable to take this any further.” Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Birmingham said: “I express my deep concern for the parents of these babies who in coming to England for excellent medical care now face the prospect that one of their children will be killed.” Earlier Cardinal Ersilio Tonini offered free medical treatment and full support for the twins and their parents in his diocese of Ravenna in Italy.
