(LifeSiteNews) — Catholics are calling on the bishops of Massachusetts to excommunicate Democrat Gov. Maura Healey after she signed a law that effectively allows unlimited abortion up to birth.
X user Jaylin Hertz pointed out that Healey “is automatically excommunicated” for signing the bill allowing unlimited abortion.
“However, if the Archbishop or any of the bishops in Massachusetts formally and publicly declare her excommunication, it carries far greater weight. It stops being something invisible and becomes a clear public witness,” Hertz said on X.

In a video address, Hertz passionately decried the evil of the measure and called upon the state bishops to take formal action.
“It’s getting to a point where this level of evil can no longer be acceptable, and we need to take public and drastic measures to deal with it,” Hertz said.
“Massachusetts is now the 10th state, including Washington, D.C., to allow abortion up to birth. Is hearing a state allows abortion to birth not just skin-crawling? Does it not piss you off? Does it not piss you off that in 10 states, children are allowed to be murdered as long as they have not yet passed through the birth canal?”
“So I’m calling on the bishops in Massachusetts to publicly and formally excommunicate these evildoers immediately. Please,” Hertz said.
“I know the bishops in Massachusetts already oppose this bill, but are they going to publicly and formally excommunicate her for signing this bill into law?”

John Monaco, head of school at Stella Maris Academy in San Francisco, called for the state bishops’ action above and beyond excommunication.
“The best thing the bishops of Massachusetts could do, save from a formal excommunication of the governor, is to call for a week of prayer, fasting, and abstinence for the crimes against humanity committed by their so-called ‘Catholic’ governor,” Monaco said.
Pointing out that Healey is an active lesbian who defended the flying of a gay “Pride” flag at a Jesuit middle school, Monaco highlighted her claim to Catholic identity as a symptom of a long-standing problem within the Church.
“Of course, she is extremely wrong and on the path to perdition. But Healey is a byproduct of DECADES of decadent malformation, poor preaching, and shoddy witness to the Catholic faith by a number of prelates and priests who are too scared to become martyrs for the sake of the Gospel of Life. Healey’s views are heinous, but in any other century, she would be univocally condemned, shamed, exiled, and excommunicated,” Monaco said.
Catholic author and editor E. Michael Jones responded to Monaco, “I agree. Governor (Healey) should be excommunicated.”
The bill signed into law by Healey, H. 5595, eliminates all prior conditions for abortions performed past 24 weeks, stating simply that “an abortion may be performed by a physician based upon the professional judgment of the physician.”
Last month, the Catholic bishops of Massachusetts condemned the bill as “radical” and “gravely immoral.”
“As Catholic bishops we have a moral responsibility to present and uphold Catholic teaching and the sacred God-given dignity of every human life from conception to the natural death,” the Massachusetts bishops said in a statement.
