CAPE TOWN, February 5, 2002 (LSN.ca) – In response to South African President Thabo Mbeki’s call for religious leaders to help address the nation’s “moral decline,” the head of the Catholic Church in South Africa, Cardinal Wilfrid Napier called on the government to halt abortions.

The South African Press Agency reports that the Cardinal said halting abortions would be a gesture of the President’s seriousness in calling for a moral renewal in South African society.
