PIETERMARITZBURG, South Africa, Mar 6 (LSN) – A South-African pro-life lawyers group known as “Lawyers for Truth” will issue a constitutional court challenge to the liberal South African abortion law on March 24. Prayers from the pro-life community around the world have been requested for the success of the legal action. Abortion was legalized in South Africa on February 1, 1997. Since then according to official statistics, which pro-life groups contest as too low, 26,000 abortions have been committed. Laws there allow for abortion without parental consent for girls 12 years old and upward. Pro-lifers hope for victory since the constitution entrenches right to life principles and yet permits abortion.
