CORRECTION (September 2, 2015)

Following reports from local media that were widely reported elsewhere, LifeSiteNews repeated on August 11 that Bishop Rafael Zornoza Boy of Cádiz and Ceuta had allowed a woman who claims to be a man to act as a godparent.

The bishop had initially refused, but the transgender person claimed that he had backed down.

It turns out, however, that the bishop did not back down on his decision in the matter. We regret that we reported this incorrect account without further verification by attempting to contact the bishop.

Yesterday, Bishop Zornoza Boy issued a very strong statement affirming Church teaching on the nature of gender, and setting the record straight on this case. (See our story here.) We applaud him, and have apologized to him for the error in the LifeSite report.
