WINNIPEG, Manitoba, October 15, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In a brief message, the Catholic archdiocese of St. Boniface in Manitoba has apologized for carrying an ad for a fundraising event in support of one of the world’s most notorious abortion and condom promoters.

Last week, LifeSiteNews.com reported that the archdiocese of St. Boniface was including on their website an ad for a gala dinner in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, to be held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Saturday. The event is being put on to raise funds to bring more condoms and condom promotion to Uganda, a country whose highly successful indigenous abstinence-based AIDS prevention program has been severely undermined by western AIDS organizations.

Julien Fradette, director of the St. Boniface Catholic Centre and editor of the archdiocese’s Weekly News Bulletin wrote to LifeSiteNews.com saying that the advert had been pulled and that the archdiocesan staff “apologize for any offence that it may have caused.”

Fradette wrote on the archdiocesan website, “We wish to reassure our readers that while the announcement was made in support of the people of Uganda, it in no way reflects or supports any position that Mr. Lewis has that stands in conflict with the beliefs of the Church.”

Stephen Lewis is one of the world’s most prominent promoters of the condom doctrines of the international AIDS organizations. His Foundation is particularly targeting Uganda for condom promotion, despite protests from local AIDS prevention groups and the government.

In a column appearing in the Washington Post this past June, one of Uganda’s leading AIDS prevention experts called on the Western “experts” to stop pushing their sex and condom doctrines in his country. “We understand that casual sex is dear to you,” said Sam L. Ruteikara, the co-chair of Uganda’s National AIDS-Prevention Committee, “but staying alive is dear to us.”

“Listen to African wisdom, and we will show you how to prevent AIDS.”

Ruteikara wrote that efforts to maintain the world’s most successful AIDS prevention program were being “sabotaged” by Western “experts” who insist that only condoms will work.
