WATERLOO, ON, August 19, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Pro-abortion Progressive Conservative Party Leader Joe Clark is to give the keynote address St. Jerome’s University’s Wintermeyer Lecture in Christianity and Public Policy.  The Univeristy of Waterloo Daily Bulletin on Thursday August 15th called Clark, “one of the most prominent Roman Catholic laymen in the country” and noted he will be speaking September 20 on “Public Life and Faith in Canada”.

The dissident Catholic former prime minister seems to be on a Catholic speaking tour.  As LifeSite revealed last month, Clark has been invited to address the annual St. Thomas More Catholic Lawyers’ Guild Red Mass dinner in Toronto, September 19 – the day before his address at St. Jerome’s.  Clark’s Calgary Bishop Fred Henry has criticized the invitation to the Red Mass. Bishop Henry told LifeSite “I don’t know why he has been chosen. He has been disappointment, as a Catholic. He has taken positions contrary to the teaching of the Church. I am surprised he would be invited to speak at the Red Mass dinner.”

On CBC radio in 2000, Clark was asked if his “pro-choice” position and Roman Catholic religion were contradictory.  He responded: “I am a Roman Catholic, I am pro-choice. … Anyone who knows anything about the Roman Catholic Church knows that [abortion] has been an issue of division for quite sometime.” ( https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2000/nov/00112002.html ) Also, this past June 10 Clark was marshal for the “gay pride” parade in Calgary, Alberta.

St. Jerome’s University shares a reputation with St. Paul’s University in Ottawa as a center for Catholic dissent.  Just one example is the infamous former nun and former Christian Mary Malone who taught at St. Jerome’s even after her public disavowal of Christianity.
