OTTAWA, June 15, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Statistics Canada released its first-ever survey of “sexual orientation” Tuesday, revealing a one percent incidence of homosexual persons. About 1.3 percent of men considered themselves homosexual, about twice the proportion of 0.7 percent among women. The survey revealed the absolute number of individuals who self-report as being “gay” or “lesbian,” at 316,800. The Canadian population is 31,752,842.
The findings contradict sharply the inaccurate but widely accepted claims of sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, who alleged that homosexuals comprise as much as 10 percent of the population. Canadian incidence is in line with U.S. statistics.
In his book, “No Need to Lie,” Gareth Kirkby charged that the incidence of homosexuality is artificially and grossly inflated. “This tendency to exaggerate may go all the way back to our spiritual forefather, Alfred C Kinsey,” Kirkby charged. “A powerful new biography by James Jones offers strong evidence that Kinsey rigged his social experiments that produced results that are quoted to this day. You know the figures; 10 percent of men are gay . . . Our personal experience strongly suggests that this [10 percent] figure, despite its omnipresence, just isn’t accurate,” Kirkby emphasized.
