MADISON, Wisconsin, Aug 17 (LSN) – The Conservative News Service reported Saturday that five students from the University of Wisconsin triumphed in a lawsuit filed against the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System in which they fought against forced support of groups which support morally objectionable practices. The students refused to pay a mandatory annual student fee of $331.50 when they realized that the monies went to support university sponsored political groups which promoted among other things abortion and homosexuality.  The university threatened to withhold the students’ grades and forbid them to graduate if they did not pay the fee. The students won the case for the second time last week as the Seventh U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago agreed with District Judge John Shabaz ruling in support of the students. Replying to accusations by university supporters that the students’ actions were restricting free speech, the panel of appeals judges responded, “the students do not ask that we restrict the speech of any student organization; they merely ask that they not be forced to financially subsidize speech with which they disagree.”
