VICTORIA, BC, Apr 21 (Lifesitenews.com) – A new study published in the Canadian Review of Sociology and Anthropology confirms previous research that associates cohabitation prior to marriage with a sharp increase in the likelihood of divorce. It also shows that marriage tends to be delayed by cohabiting couples. According to today’s National Post, Professor Aheng Wu of the University of Victoria has found that “women who have lived with a man out of wedlock are 80% more likely to eventually divorce or separate than are women who have never entered into a live-in relationship, while men who have been in common-law unions are 150% more likely to suffer marital breakdowns.”

Culling his data from Canadian census information and national surveys, Dr. Wu reported that women who first lived together with their spouse prior to marriage were 26% older when they married than women who stayed apart until marriage.
