Young women who read Fifty Shades of Grey are more likely to get drunk and be promiscuous according to researchers at Michigan State University.

Women aged 18-24 who read all three books in the pornographic series were 63 percent more likely to have had five or more sexual partners than their peers who had not read the trilogy. They were 65 percent more likely to binge drink.

Those who read only the first “mommy porn” book displayed other problematic behaviors. They were 25 percent more likely to have a partner who showed signs of verbal abuse such as yelling or swearing, and 34 percent more likely to be with a man who showed signs of being a stalker.

“It's possible the books influenced the onset of these behaviors,” Amy Bonomi, the leader researcher of the study that included 650 women, said.

Critics and analysts alike say the behavior exhibited by the book's lead character is the model of real life abusive behavior.

“The most likely real-world ending of Fifty Shades of Grey is fifty shades of black and blue,” porn researcher and sociologist Dr. Gail Dines wrote. “The awful truth in the real world is that women who partner with a Christian Grey often end up hightailing it to a battered women's shelter with traumatized kids in tow. The less fortunate end up in graveyards.”

The book, which glamorizes bondage, domination, sadism, and masochism (BDSM), has sold more than 100 million copies.
