NEW YORK, June 23 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Christopher Reeve, known for his big-screen portrayal of Superman,  urged population control at the United Nations Wednesday. “The children of the 21st century will be faced with a very daunting problem—that is, the quality of life because of overpopulation,”  he told a UN headquarters dinner. In spite of UN reports of a looming underpopulation crisis,  Reeve said more than six billion people live “on a planet that is falling apart, where there is not enough food to go around, not enough health or education.” “It is time to take bold steps to control the world’s population,” Reeve said, as reported by the Associated Press yesterday. “I hope we will not let political, social and religious barriers get in the way of what we owe to our children.”

Reeve, disabled due to an accident, has advocated for the use of human embryos for stem-cell research aimed at repairing spinal cord injuries.
