GENEVA, Mar 15, 2001 ( – On Wednesday, Switzerland’s parliament approved the legalization of abortion on demand. Under the new law, women will be permitted to have their children aborted during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy with a written request to a doctor. Xinhua News Agency reports that before being implemented, the amendment may need approval by Swiss voters if its opponents are able to collect the 50,000 signatures needed to force a nationwide vote on the issue.
