“OTTAWA, February 3, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-family Liberal MP Pat O’Brien told the Globe and Mail today that the Liberal Whip has warned at least two other Liberal backbench MPs opposed to same-sex “marriage” legislation to “at least take a walk at the time of the vote.”

“These are two members who are definitely in the ‘no’ column when it comes to this legislation,” O’Brien said. “If they can get them to stay away, that’s one vote less against the government bill.”

O’Brien said that although MPs are occasionally told to keep away rather than influence a vote in an undesirable direction, “it should not be done on an issue of this magnitude especially when the Prime Minister is giving a free vote [to caucus members].”

“None of that nonsense should be going on.”

O’Brien said a poll taken in his own London-Fanshawe riding revealed an overwhelming majority oppose legalizing same-sex “marriage.”

Liberal Whip Karen Redman denied using any strong-arm tactics with opponents of the legislation.  tv
