Television Program From the Past Eerily Appropriate to Today

Commentary by Steve Jalsevac

August 24, 2010 ( – LifeSiteNews journalist Hilary White sent me an email noting links to the three-part YouTube video of a 1950s Twilight Zone television series segment called, The Obsolete Man. Hilary, who has been covering major international developments for some time, suggested the segment was well worth viewing again in light of today’s trends. I have to agree after going through it and considering the very extensive research I just undertook for the August 24 commentary, Militant Islam Versus the West and especially considering Denver Archbishop Chaput’s incredible speech in Slovakia on Tuesday.

Twilight Zone host Rod Serling, begins the television segment stating:

“This is not a new world: It is simply an extension of what began in the old one. It has patterned itself after every dictator who has ever planted the ripping imprint of a boot on the pages of history since the beginning of time. It has refinements, technological advances, and a more sophisticated approach to the destruction of human freedom. But like every one of the super states that preceded it, it has one iron rule: Logic is an enemy, and truth is a menace.”

Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognise the worth and dignity, the rights of man, that state is obsolete.”

Logic is an enemy and truth is a menace.” We could not have expressed it better, as LifeSiteNews reports have been revealing the spread of such thinking once again in our time. That is why LifeSiteNews exists – to counter the growing denial and suppression of truth, logic and reason.

We have been warning that this is leading towards totalitarianism. We have been using that word repeatedly over the past few years, simply because the evidence for this has become obvious – to anyone willing to face the truth and cognizant of history. It is very encouraging therefore to see that a leader of the stature of Archbishop Chaput and other leaders are now finally and very clearly sounding the warning about today’s developments.

Considering the news that we have had to publish recently on LifeSiteNews, Rod Serling’s introductory statements from the 1950s seem every bit as appropriate for today as they were then.
