TEST TUBE BABIES HAVE RIGHT TO BIOLOGICAL PARENTS ID’S
LONDON, July 26 (LSN) – In Vitro Fertilization clinics in Britain are in an uproar about proposed changes to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act that would allow test tube babies to trace their biological parents. Fertility clinic owners feel their lucrative business would suffer a loss of donors if donor anonymity were removed.
The Sunday Times of London also reported that yesterday marked the twenty first birthday of Louise Brown, the first test tube baby. Brown, born on July 25, 1978, in Oldham General Hospital, was, as an embryo, implanted in her mother’s womb after being transported to Oldham inside a rabbit. The paper estimates that since Brown more than “300,000 women around the world have conceived by IVF, 29,000 of them in the UK.”
