STEPHENVILLE, Texas (LifeSiteNews) — The Texas Medical Board has rescinded the medical license of a physician found to have prescribed an abortion-inducing drug in violation of the state’s comprehensive pro-life laws.

Texas currently has a near-total abortion ban dating to 1925, a trigger law signed in 2021, and a heartbeat-based abortion ban that was allowed to take effect by the Texas and U.S. Supreme Courts – thanks to its unconventional enforcement mechanism (citizen lawsuits rather than government prosecution) – several months before the nation’s highest court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022. It is also one of the multiple states suing the Trump administration to force a reversal of FDA rules allowing abortion pills to be dispensed by mail, which makes state bans much harder to enforce.

Live Action reports that the state’s top health licensing and enforcement body notified Dr. William Evans on September 4 that his authorization to practice medicine was being rescinded, effective immediately, because the board received unspecified “proof” that he “engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient” and in December 2023 “prescribed an abortive to that patient.”

Whether or not the woman took the drug and aborted is unknown but, regardless, the prescription was illegal under the state’s Human Life Protection Act. As a result, Evans’s Cross Timbers Orthopaedics is currently closed, and he could still face felony prosecution, though whether he will be charged is not yet known.

Thirteen states ban most abortions starting at conception; another five ban it at around six weeks, with additional states imposing a range of later restrictions.

But the abortion lobby works feverishly to preserve abortion “access” via deregulated interstate distribution of abortion pills, legal protection and financial support of interstate abortion travel, constructing new abortion facilities near borders shared by pro-life and pro-abortion states, making liberal states havens for those who want to evade or violate the laws of more pro-life neighbors, and embedding abortion “rights” in state constitutions, whether via activist lawsuits or state constitutional amendments.
