TORONTO, August 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – This fall, from September 25th to November 3rd, Toronto will be one of more than a dozen Canadian cities and one of hundreds of cities around the world joining together for the most dynamic coordinated pro-life mobilization in history – the 40 Days for Life campaign. But organizers are appealing for volunteers to help make the Toronto campaign successful.

“40 Days for Life has been held in Canada since 2009, and ever since then, Campaign Life Coalition and other pro-life groups in more than 20 Canadian cities have organized these prayer vigils in front of private abortion facilities and hospitals. Hearts have been changed, and lives have been saved. This is a fact,” said Campaign Life Coalition project manager Matthew Wojciechowski.

“But the truth is, we need more people, more parishes and congregations, more youth groups, more families getting involved and praying for an end to abortion,” Wojciechowski told LifeSiteNews.

The 40 Days for Life campaign is usually held twice a year, in the spring and fall. However, this year’s spring campaign in Toronto was not held because of a lack of volunteers.

“Our two previous coordinators (for the Fall 2012 campaign) had full-time school and work to return to and so the decision was made not to do the campaign in the spring, but to focus on this fall,” Wojciechowski explained.

“We are still in need of volunteers willing to join the 40 Days for Life Toronto Committee,” he said. “We have a few people who have responded to our original appeal and are willing to help out on the committee, but more people would obviously be better.”

Wojciechowski pointed out that 40 Days for Life is not a political campaign, but a focused pro-life effort that consists of prayer and fasting for an end of abortion, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and community outreach.

“Whether it's for one hour a day or even one hour a week, prayer volunteers are always needed. Every hour counts when praying for an end to abortion in Canada and around the world,” Wojciechowski said.

David Bereit, the founder of 40 Days for Life, gave a clear explanation of the focus of the 40 Days for Life pro-life campaign at Ottawa's National March for Life this year.

Speaking at the Canadian March for Life Youth Conference organized by Campaign Life Coalition, Bereit said, “Everything we do in the pro-life movement” must “begin and end in prayer.”

“Your peaceful loving presence out there flies in the face of all the stereotypes they want to throw onto us,” he said. “When you show them love instead of condemnation, when you show them peace and joy instead of anger and judgment, that will begin to break down the walls.”

Campaign Life Coalition will have information and updated lists of locations for the Fall 40 Days for Life campaign as they are confirmed by organizing groups in communities across Canada.

“Wherever you are, go to the 40daysforlife.com website and find out if there is a campaign near you,” urged CLC's Matthew Wojciechowski.

“If there is, I highly encourage everyone to help their local committee and join the prayer vigils.”
