Toronto police give parade participants blanket exemption from indecency law
The September/October Reality magazine by REAL Women if Canada slams the Toronto Police and provincial legal authorities for giving special legal protection to participants in the annual gay pride parade who have now started to parade totally nude.
As well, Reality states that the Toronto press has greatly exaggerated the numbers attending the parade. Media reports gave attendance numbers of 750,000 to 1,000,000 whereas the actual number says Reality can be generously set, at most, at approximately 154,000. If the higher figures were correct, says the article, “the crowds would have had to be 80 deep along the 3.1 kilometer parade route: an absurdity. The crowd density was on average 4-6 people deep.”
