TORONTO, May 29, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canadian police have frequently found their efforts to enforce sexual morality laws undermined by weak-willed government and court officials. The latest in this on-going saga was yesterday’s sentence to house arrest of 20-year-old Yong Jun Kim convicted of widely distributing a large volume of “graphic and disturbing” child porn via the internet.  The Toronto Sun reported today that Kim forfeited one of his five computers, was ordered to stay away from areas frequented by children for two years, must let police search his computers each day and must perform 200 hours of community service.  Janet Hall from the Toronto Police child exploitation section told the Sun that lenient sentences are deflating for police who watch the accused walk out of court instead of into jail. “There’s no real punishment”, she said.

Hall warned that “Toronto’s becoming one of the leaders in the world in child pornography (distribution) and its not a distinction we want. Do you have to kidnap a 10-year-old…before people pay attention? It’s all part of the same cycle of abuse.” The constable’s last comment referred to the almost inevitable link between pornography and the recent abduction and horrific murder in Toronto of 10-old-old Holly Jones.  Meanwhile, today’s Sun reports in another article that Toronto police are applauding VISA for being the only credit card in the world firmly acting to prevent use of its services for any child-porn transactions. Detective Sgt. Paul Gillespie is quoted as saying, “It’s a start but we’ve still got a long way to go”.

Pro-family activists would like to see VISA go further and also disallow VISA use for payments of all hard-core porn, currently a serious internet problem and proven to be related to other forms of sexual abuse and exploitation.  See related LifeSite articles:  Child pornography: ‘Toronto’s hidden shame’  https://www.lifesitenews.com/interim/2002/mar/02childporn.html   TORONTO POLICE CHIEF RIPS FEDS AND COURTS FOR DIFFICULTY OF CHILD PORN ARRESTS https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2003/feb/03021108.html   CANADA AGAIN FAILS TO MAKE ARRESTS IN INTERNATIONAL CHILD PORN RING BUST https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2001/dec/01120303.html   CANADIAN PRO-FAMILY GROUPS URGE CHANGES TO WEAK CHILD PORN BILL C-20 https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2003/feb/03021204.html   Hear Michael Coren’s broadcast on the Holly Jones murder https://www.lifesitenews.com:7070/ramgen/Coren/052203hollymurder.rm
