TORONTO, May 23 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The City of Toronto has decided to challenge the restriction of marriage to heterosexual couples.  Following a staged demand for a marriage licence by homosexual activists, the Toronto City Clerk Novina Wong was advised by the City Solicitor that denying the licence may contradict the Charter of Rights.  The Clerk advised Toronto City Council that the case had been referred to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for a decision on the matter.

The decision to bring the matter to court means that the homosexual marriage challenge will be presented by a lawyer funded by Toronto taxpayers.  The decision to enter into this case shows the Toronto Council is engaging in activism to promote same-sex marriage.  The law as it stands   would have had the clerk simply refuse to issue a marriage license, explaining that marriage is exclusively for single heterosexuals.
