Toronto trustee mocks Pride’s nudity critics: new babies ‘shamelessly and shockingly’ parade naked

TORONTO, March 12, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Toronto school trustee has mocked critics of nudity at the city’s Pride parade by suggesting they should equally be outraged at newly-born babies who “shamelessly and shockingly” parade themselves unclothed.

Trustee Howard Kaplan, who represents Ward 5, York Centre was responding to a motion proposed last week to have the city clarify whether or not the law against public nudity would be enforced. He also argued that public nudity should be allowed at the parade since animals do not wear clothing.

“Children every day out on the street they see dogs and cats — even on occasion a horse — buck naked with all their sexual organs exposed. Even flowers have their sexual organs all exposed,” he said in a video captured by an amateur last week and posted to Youtube.

Trustee Sam Sotiropoulos became a target of homosexual activism last month after he asked Toronto Police to enforce Canadian law against public nudity happening in the annual Pride parades. The TDSB runs a float every year in the parade. Sotiropoulos said that with the parade known to include naked men and women, he was concerned about the “age appropriateness” of the event and that Canadian law was being openly “flouted.”

Students are “seeing the breaking of the laws of Canada,” he said.

Last week Sotiropoulos along with trustees Irene Atkinson and John Hastings put forward a motion requesting that the school board ask Mayor Rob Ford and city councillors to “clarify whether or not the public nudity law of Canada will be upheld and enforced at future Pride events in which the TDSB participates.”

Kaplan mocked the effort behind the motion, comparing naked Pride paraders to babies being born “buck naked” in a hospital.

“They [babies] are there parading their ‘altogether’ in front of hospital staff that [sic] are trying to do their work, and in front of a woman who has just brought forth a baby into the world. And here is this baby parading himself, shamelessly and shockingly, at such a young age.”

Kaplan when asked directly if he supported nudity at the parade responded: “It doesn’t bother me,” adding that even though he is aware of the law against nudity, “it’s unenforceable.”

Kaplan defended nudity at the parade in front of a sign that read: “Kindergarten Registration begins February.”

Last month, Danny Glenwright, managing editor of the homosexual news agency DailyXtra, defended nudity at the parade in a piece titled “Let's get naked this Pride.”

It’s just “queer people celebrating their sexuality,” he wrote.

Glenwright ridiculed “concern for children” as a legitimate reason for opposing nakedness at the Pride parade.

“So let’s call it what it is and stop allowing these bigots and nudity-haters from masking their issues with concern for the wide-eyed children. And let’s remember that Pride is not the Santa Claus parade — its roots are in protest and sexual liberation.”

Last week, Canada.com editor Lauren Strapagiel called concerns raised by Sotiropoulos a “profound display of ignorance” and a “manufactured controversy."

“In-your-face sexuality is the point of the damn thing,” she wrote. Strapagiel made light of nudity at the parade saying that there are “worse things than seeing a penis flopping down Yonge Street.”

But Campaign Life Coalition, a pro-life-and-family organization, has collected photographic evidence that pride parades include more than naked men walking down the street, but also displays of mock sex acts, sexual bondage, and sadomasochism. (Warning: Links lead to explicit images.)

Campaign Life Coalition is urging concerned parents in the TDSB to apply as delegates to the next board meeting so as to speak in favor of the motion. It is also asking parents to show support for the three trustees behind the motion.
