OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s federal government reportedly only began dropping its COVID jab travel mandates after a poll showed the majority of Canadians viewed them as divisive, ineffective, and unnecessary.
According to Blacklock’s Reporter, a recently unveiled pollster’s report commissioned by Trudeau’s Privy Council Office titled, Continuous Qualitative Data Collection Of Canadians’ Views, shows that the federal government’s abrupt decision to start dropping federal mandates in June occurred just weeks after the poll found that the majority of Canadians no longer supported the measures.
“All participants were of the view vaccine requirements had been largely harmful, believing they had been divisive, ineffective and unfairly targeted those who had made the personal decision to not get vaccinated,” reads the May 16 report, adding that “some felt they had lost their sense of trust in the federal government.”
The researchers noted that respondents “felt the decision to get vaccinated was a personal one,” and that vaccine mandates constituted an “overreach on the part of the federal government and unfairly infringed upon those who made the personal choice to not get vaccinated for COVID-19.”
“And given the perception that vaccinated and non-vaccinated individuals can both transmit the virus, it was felt this did not make much of a difference regarding the level of safety of those who were not fully vaccinated,” added the researchers.
According to the report, mandatory masking was also viewed as pointless, with respondents saying the measure had “little impact overall,” and “in many cases” had “done more harm than good.”
Respondents also noted that those who had lost their jobs due to Trudeau’s coercive mandates were “unfairly treated by the Government of Canada.”
It was in the fall of 2021 when Trudeau first announced that anyone traveling by air, rail or sea would need the COVID shots to both domestically and internationally.
The first crack in the loosening of the Trudeau government’s travel vaccine mandates came in June after it announced a “suspension” of the COVID jab mandate for travelers and federally regulated transportation workers.
In September, Trudeau’s government announced an end to the remaining COVID mandates regarding travel starting October 1, including the removal of mandatory masking on planes, compulsory COVID testing, required use of the ArriveCAN travel app and mandatory quarantine for the vaccine-free.
While the COVID travel rules have been suspended for the time being, they are still the subject of multiple pending lawsuits seeking to have the measures officially deemed unconstitutional by the courts.
The ArriveCAN app has also become the subject of a number of lawsuits, with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms recently announcing they will continue pursuing legal action against the once-mandatory app.
