OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — The pro-abortion Liberal Party of Canada attacked a Conservative MP because he visited a pro-life church convention in the United States last year, drawing a swift rebuke from a top Canadian pro-life group that came to the defense of the MP.
On September 24, the official X account of the Liberal Party posted a headline from a Quebec newspaper, Le Journal De Montreal, dated the same day with the (translated to English) headline, “Embarrassing for Pierre Poilievre: a Conservative Party of Canada member received by an anti-abortion church in the United States.”
The Liberal post also included the text, “Embarrassing but not surprising.”
The Le Journal report recounts how Conservative Party of Canada MP Jeremy Patzer from Saskatchewan spent three days last year in Tampa, Florida, where he was an invited speaker at the Church of God Ministries convention.
Both Patzer and the Church of God Ministries hold strong pro-life beliefs, with Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) giving the MP a “green light” rating.
CLC defended Patzer after the Liberals’ attacked him, with a counter post on X reading, “We have news for you, @Liberal_party. All Catholic churches in Canada @CCCB_CECC are anti-abortion.”
“Will your MPs commit to no longer being hosted by any of them? (Embarrassing, but not surprising.)” it read.
The Liberal Party under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has become one of the most pro-abortion political entities in Canada.
For years, Trudeau has professed his support for abortion despite being a baptized Catholic. Since taking office in 2015, his Liberal government has put forward pro-abortion policies such as stripping pregnancy resource centers of their charitable status because they promote life instead of abortion.
While many CPC MPs hold strong pro-life beliefs, the party under Poilievre is notoriously soft on issues important to social conservatives, including abortion, the LGBT agenda, and Canada’s involvement with globalist international organizations.
