OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) –– The national elections campaign director for Canada’s federal Liberal Party has stepped down in his role because, according to sources close to the party, he does not think Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can with a fourth consecutive election.

Jeremy Broadhurst, who until last week served as the national elections campaign director for both Trudeau and the Liberal Party, put out a statement on X last Thursday confirming that he was stepping down from his role.

“Given the stakes involved, the Prime Minister, the Liberal Party of Canada and all its candidates deserve someone who can bring more energy and devotion to the job than I can at this stage of my life,” he wrote.

“My family has selflessly sacrificed for years to allow me to pursue this all-consuming work. I have come to the conclusion that I cannot ask them to sacrifice another year. Therefore, with regret, I have decided to step down from the position of National Campaign Director.”

According to a source who spoke with the Toronto Star, Trudeau’s chief of staff Katie Telford was blindsided by Broadhurst quitting. Another person close to the Liberal Party, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, alleged that Broadhurst quit because he did not think Trudeau could win the next election, which could be called at any moment.

Broadhurst, who has long ties to the Liberal Party, was in his role as campaign director for just one year, and his resignation comes at a time when an election is no more than 13 months away.

The possibility of a federal election happening before the fall of 2025 just increased in recent days after New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh pulled his official support for Trudeau’s Liberals last week.

Late last month, the leader of Canada’s Conservative Party Pierre Poilievre called on Singh to pull his support for Trudeau’s Liberals, so that an election could be held.

Recent polls show that the Conservatives under Poilievre would win a majority government in a landslide were an election held today. Singh’s NDP and Trudeau’s Liberals would lose a massive number of seats.
