WASHINGTON, D.C., November 28, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – The Trump family’s first presidential Christmas card says “Merry Christmas” rather than “Happy Holidays,” the Obamas’ preferred greeting.

It seems Trump is making good on his campaign and post-campaign promises to fight political correctness.

“We’re gonna say Merry Christmas again!” he promised last December.

The 2017 White House Christmas card wishes people “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” It’s signed by President Trump, Melania, and their son Barron.

“The President, Barron, and I are very excited for our first Christmas in the White House,” said First Lady Melania Trump. “As with many families across the country, holiday traditions are very important to us. I hope when visiting the People’s House this year, visitors will get a sense of being home for the holidays.”

“On behalf of my husband and Barron, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and joyous holiday season,” the First Lady said.

On Monday, the White House unveiled its Christmas decorations. The theme of this year’s decorations is “Time-Honored Traditions.”

Melania designed the theme to pay respect to “200 years of holiday traditions at the White House,” according to her office.

A promotional video from the White House showcasing this year’s decorations zoomed in on a traditional nativity set featuring a baby Jesus wearing a crown.

The Obamas never used the word “Christmas” on any of their eight Christmas cards.

In 2009, the Obamas’ Christmas card said “Season’s Greetings.” During other years, the cards frequently used the word “holiday.”

This year, visitors to the White House will find “a tribute to our service members and their families with the Gold Star Family Tree, which has been decorated with gold stars and patriotic ribbon,” the First Lady’s office explained of this year’s decorations.

Next, the China Room “is set up for a family Christmas dinner, with the table displaying the china from President Ronald Reagan. Then, visitors will see the Library, which features President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1866 edition of ‘A Christmas Carol,’ as they recall the time-honored custom of reading Christmas stories to loved ones.”

There are rooms and halls filled with cookies, Christmas trees, crafts, and classic decorations.

The White House gingerbread house this year is a mini replica of the actual building. The 350-pound luxury treat shows the south facade of the White House and “features Mrs. Trump’s signature Christmas wreaths.”

Children visiting the White House this year repeatedly told Melania, wearing a white dress, that she looked like an angel.
