(LifeSiteNews) — Adults who struggle with gender confusion are being shielded from the permanently damaging effects of transgender drugs and surgeries thanks to President Donald Trump’s focus on protecting kids from the procedures.
Though obviously meant as a critical article, NBC News recently highlighted the ways Trump’s directives to stop hospitals and doctors from mutilating kids has created ancillary benefits.
“Federal officials have scrapped coverage of [so-called] transition treatment for federal and Postal Service employees unless they are “mid-treatment,'” NBC News reported. “Next year, the administration will end their coverage entirely.”
For example, a man who works for the Post Office but claims to be a woman complained that he could not get a $50,000 “facial feminization surgery” due to changes to government insurance.
Those changes mean gender-confused adults will no longer be able to have their breasts or testicles removed on the taxpayer’s dime. At the same time, they will be saved from the psychological and physical damage of the procedure.
The Trump administration also took other actions that protected adults. As NBC News reports:
Since Trump re-entered office, he has signed an executive order prohibiting hospitals that receive federal funding from providing transition services to “children,” but the directive includes a broad definition of child: anyone under 19. The Department of Veterans Affairs has ended transgender care at the agency’s hospitals for anyone who wasn’t already receiving hormone therapy.
The Department of Health and Human Services has enacted a rule that prohibits gender-affirming care from being covered as an essential health benefit under the Affordable Care Act – reversing an Obama administration expansion of trans care access.
Even in blue states, like Washington, gender-confused adults report they are unable to get the damaging drugs or surgeries because the hospitals are rolling back procedures.
The massive Veterans Affairs system has also been extremely generous in handing out all sorts of procedures and items to gender-confused adults, all on the taxpayer’s dime.
One veteran reported receiving “hormone therapy, individual mental health services, group therapy, prosthetics, wigs, laser hair removal and referral letters for surgeries.”
State efforts could also protect adults
State legislators could also move further to protect not just kids, but adults, from the procedures. A bill in Oklahoma would protect all individuals from the drugs and surgeries.
Similarly, colleges in red states could stop covering the surgical and chemical interventions for students, as happened at the University of Florida.
Restrictions would be in line with a growing body of evidence that the surgical and chemical interventions do not make mental health problems better.
In addition to the biological fact that sex is immutable, the procedures have been linked to heart problems, strokes, and infertility.
