WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews)— Fox News host Tucker Carlson believes Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other Western leaders will find new “emergencies” to justify hanging on to their sweeping COVID-granted powers.

“You’ve got to feel a little bad for the many heads of Western democracies, for them, the end of the coronavirus pandemic is really the worst thing they can imagine,” Carlson stated during the opening of his Tuesday night program.

“Put yourself in their position: for two years you’ve wielded unprecedented power over your country. You’ve told citizens where and when they can work, shop, worship, go outside. You’ve controlled what they wear, decided how their children will be educated, and what drugs they must put into their bodies. For a person with no useful skills and limited job prospects in the real economy, and that describes all of them, it has been an extraordinary experience,” Carlson continued.

He likened civil leaders’ newfound powers to the power of God and stated that the last thing the leaders want is for their reign of limitless power to end.

Carlson said that as the coronavirus “pandemic” winds down, these leaders will find a “new emergency” that “justifies” making the powers they have granted themselves under the guise of COVID “permanent.”

“If you’re going to remain God, you’re going to need a devil to fight,” said the Fox News host, adding that the new playbook for the Western leaders will be to “find an enemy, create a crisis, stay in power forever.”

Carlson stated that this type of fake crisis is exactly what has occurred in Canada under Trudeau. Despite the Freedom Convoy demonstrators were citizens exercising their right to peaceful assembly, Trudeau and state-funded media collectively called them “terrorists,” “insurrectionists,” and even “white supremacists.” This gave them the ability to declare a mere protest a national “emergency.”

While Trudeau has since rescinded the Emergencies Act, he did so only after pressure from the Canadian Senate. Carlson accurately stated that after the so-called “emergency” had ended, Trudeau attempted to hold on to his self-granted powers. In fact, according to Trudeau’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, the government will seek to make many of the powers granted via the Emergencies Act, particularly the state’s power over crowdfunding platforms and cryptocurrency exchanges, permanent.

We must pray for peace at this time where war has broken out between Russia and Ukraine.

This sudden escalation in hostilities, since Russia declared support for the independence of two ethnic-Russian parts of Ukraine, is tragic.

We must pray for an end to the armed conflict and that it does not devolve into world war.

Please SIGN this PRAYER PLEDGE FOR PEACE, and pledge to pray for peace in Ukraine now.

Thousands have already died, lost homes and are suffering the ravages of war. The only real peace comes from Jesus Christ and in Him alone can we find truth and true peace.

Thank you for SIGNING and SHARING this PRAYER PLEDGE FOR PEACE.

*To fulfill your pledge, please recite any prayer of your choosing, like the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Gloria, the Holy Rosary, or any prayer in your own words, to God for a peaceful resolution to this conflict.

Carlson explained that the Canadian crackdown on dissident journalists, the private bank accounts that have been frozen, the businesses that have been targeted by police for supporting the Freedom Convoy, and the police that used disproportionate and violent force on peaceful citizens who oppose the Trudeau regime, are not intended by Trudeau to remain temporary or extraordinary measures. Rather, they indicate where the prime minister desires the country to head permanently.

“This is what the collapse of democracy looks like,” the Fox News host said.

“It’s not simply beating people in the streets; it’s making it impossible for them to live because you steal all their money,” Carlson continued.

“You award yourself the power to control every dollar in your country. Where does that power come from? Well, it’s a self-appointed power…”

After holding on to the Emergencies Act powers for days after the Freedom Convoy protests cleared, Trudeau announced yesterday that he has revoked the Act.

Despite the revocation of the Act, many bank accounts remain frozen, and protest leader Tamara Lich still sits in jail on mischief charges after being denied bail by a judge who formerly ran as a Liberal Party candidate.

According to the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, who filed legal action against Trudeau over the Act, “[We] believe that it’s important for the courts to comment on the legal threshold and constitutional issues so as to guide the actions of future governments.”

“Even though the orders are no longer in force, Canadians are left with the precedent,” stated the group, adding, “We will be consulting with our counsel over the next few days to determine what the next steps are in our litigation, but at this time we will continue our case.”
