(LifeSiteNews) — Most Americans reject the Democratic Party’s official support for abortion through all nine months of pregnancy for any reason, according to a new poll.

The University of Pennsylvania, along with SurveyMonkey, polled 21,730 Americans in September and October to ask them for their views on abortion.

“Do you think a pregnant woman should be able to legally have an abortion in the second or third trimester of pregnancy under any circumstance, as a matter of choice?” one question asked.

By a 2 to 1 margin, respondents said “No” to this question, which represents the Democratic Party’s stance on abortion. Only 34% of respondents said there should be absolutely no limits on abortion. Furthermore, 46% of Democrats rejected this stance. In addition to being a plank in the party platform, governors of major Democratic states including IllinoisCaliforniaNew York, and New Jersey have all put unlimited abortions into law.

The poll also found support for allowing fathers to have a veto over a woman’s decision to have an abortion.

Respondents were nearly split down the middle (49% against, 52% [sic] for) when asked if a married woman in the first trimester should be allowed to abort her baby if the “partner” objects. In cases of unmarried women, 44% supported the right of a father to object and stop the abortion.

Furthermore, Americans want to see the issue of abortion kept in the hands of voters, not judges, a finding that undermines the claim that most people support Roe v. Wade.

When it comes to who should determine “abortion regulations,” a consistent 75% super-majority in favor of elected officials or public referendum emerges, across all party affiliations. Most respondents favored a “public referendum” on the issue.

Most respondents did, however, voice opposition to prohibitions on abortion even in cases of rape or health of the mother. However, the question on health asked about abortions if the woman’s “health is seriously endangered,” not about generalized health concerns like possible anxiety or depression postpartum. Meanwhile, 59% said they backed abortion for any reason in the first trimester.

This is the latest poll to find that most Americans want at least some restrictions on abortion. A May 2022 poll of 1,000 likely voters found 67% of respondents said they “believe abortion should not be legal past the first three months of pregnancy,” including 24% who think “all abortions should be illegal.”

Another May 2022 poll concluded that only 15% of Americans support the Democratic Party’s no-limits stances on abortion.

UPDATE (01/30/23): Mark Houck has been AQUITTED on both charges!

Thanks be to God LifeSiteNews can report that Mark Houck has been found "Not Guilty" on all counts today.

In a statement to LifeSiteNews, Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania spokeswoman and Houck family friend Ashley Garecht said “We rejoice and celebrate that Mark Houck has been found not guilty on all counts.”

“This case was always about a father’s right to protect his son, and never had anything to do with the FACE act,” she said. “We are grateful to the judge for his integrity, and to the jurors for their thoughtful deliberations. We are grateful to Mark’s attorneys who labored so diligently in his defense. And we are grateful for all of those who surrounded and supported Mark and his family in prayer through this challenging ordeal.”

“Most of all we praise and thank God for his protection and provision,” Garecht added. “To Him be all the glory.”

The Thomas More Society is set to hold a press conference today on the 6th street side of the James A. Byrne U.S. Courthouse, 601 Market Street, Philadelphia.

Monday’s verdict came after a tense weekend wait following a deadlocked jury on Friday.

Several hours into Monday’s deliberations after the jury reconvened,  an alternate was chosen to replace one of the jurors. Just before 3:00 p.m. EST, the jury delivered its verdict, acquitting Houck on both charges.

Mark Houck, a pro-life Catholic father of 7, became the latest victim of an FBI raid and arrest on the morning of Friday September 23 — for supposed “FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act” violations — at his rural home as his children looked on “screaming.”

The arrest and raid stems from an altercation with a Planned Parenthood worker.

According to Mark’s wife Ryan-Marie, a “pro-abortion protester” would verbally harrass Mark's 12-year old son — hurling vulgar and derogatory statements.

When the protestor encroached in the boy's space, Mark defended his son. At that point, “Mark shoved him away from his child, and the guy fell back,” Ryan-Marie recounts.

The protestor was not injured, but he tried to sue Mark Houck for the assault but his case was thrown out of court in the early summer.

WE CANNOT ALLOW THE LEFT TO HARRASS PRO-LIFE ADVOCATES THIS WAY!

If convicted, Houck faces up to a maximum of 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines of up to $350,000, according to the Justice Department.

Additional conservative pro-life leaders have weighed in — this is why we need your support ASAP.

“Just in the last few days we’ve seen some pretty glaring examples of what appear to be instances of DOJ [Department of Justice] overreach. You’ve got a Catholic father of seven who formed a group designed to encourage young men to be faithful to their commitments, arrested in front of his seven children just recently. You’ve got all these instances of overreach. It’s deeply concerning to us all. These are all things we’re gonna be looking into.”  — US Senator Mike Lee

Pro-life group says poll results align with their findings as well

Students for Life of America spokeswoman Kristi Hamrick told LifeSiteNews on Tuesday that the organization’s polls have found similar results.

“Students for Life of America’s polling shows that Americans are tired of elitists dictating abortion policy,” Hamrick wrote in an email.

She criticized a “predatory and aggressive abortion industry” for exploiting the issue of rape and incest.

“We know that it will take loving effort to draw attention to the humanity of people, no matter how they were conceived,” Hamrick wrote. “We need to hear from people conceived in rape, talking about their lives, and women who suffered rape discussing how the violence of abortion was not a cure to their pain.”

“SFLA opposes discrimination against people based on sex, age, race, stage of development, parents’ financial status, or parent’s actions,” the spokeswoman stated. “Each life has value for the simple reason that each life is a unique human being. We don’t issue birth certificates with a ratings system based on the events of conception. A birth certificate celebrates that a unique new life has entered the world — valuable before birth as well as after.”
