LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas, November 13, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — The Supreme Court says Arkansas heartbeat bill's opponents have until December 10 to respond to the state's appeal.

In 2013, the GOP-led legislature passed a ban on most abortions at 12 weeks' gestation, when a heartbeat can be detected. That law has been overturned twice by federal judges, including a panel at the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in May.

Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has appealed the decisions to the U.S. Supreme Court, saying that prior legal standards of fetal viability should be superseded by a doctor's ability to hear an unborn child's heartbeat.

The high court has now told the bill's opponents they have until December 10 to respond to Rutledge's appeal.
