NEW YORK, August 11, 2003 ( – A United Nations organization that promotes homosexual marriage has prepared an agenda that explicitly envisions a “showdown with religion. “UNGLOBE,  the association of U.N. Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual Employees, received official U.N. recognition in 1996.  Panel members at an UNGLOBE meeting singled out Roman Catholics and evangelical Protestants as opponents, according to a report from C-Fam, the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, based at the U.N. plaza in New York. Paula Ettelbrick of the San Francisco-based International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, proclaimed a “showdown with religion” in the face of Pope John Paul II’s “call to arms” against homosexual marriage.  Svend Robinson, the Canadian M.P., said the Roman Catholic Church should “clean up your own house” before attacking homosexuals. Robinson criticized Calgary’s Catholic Bishop, Fred Henry, for his “unbelievable” invocation of “eternal damnation” for Catholics who support the government’s direction on homosexual marriage. Robinson also mocked “born again” Christians, saying that if they had to be born again, “Did they have to come back again as themselves?”

Bishop Henry did not in fact use the term ‘eternal damnation” but rather expressed concern for the “eternal salvation” of the Canadian Prime Minister.  For WorldNetDaily coverage:
