UN Human Rights Commission Battle on Right to Sexual and Reproductive Health Expected to Begin Next

Tue Apr 6, 2004 - 12:15 pm EST

GENEVA, April 6, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As reported by LifeSiteNews.com on April 1, UN Special Rapporteur Paul Hunt asserted in his recent report to the General Assembly that “The rights to sexual and reproductive health had an indispensable role to play in the struggle against poverty, HIV/AIDS, gender inequality and intolerance.”

The unexpected inclusion of the abortion agenda into yet another UN meeting, has sent pro-family nations and delegates scrambling to head off this latest attempt to impose on the world’s nations, via the UN, the obligation to provide abortion and other interferences in family and cultural life.  LifeSite has learned that the section of Hunt’s report dealing with the contentious sexual and reproductive rights is due to be discussed Next Tuesday. The vote on whether or not to adopt Hunt’s report is scheduled to take place on April 15 and 16.  See Paul Hunt’s complete report with the innocuous sounding title “The right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health” at http://www.unhchr.ch/pdf/chr60/49AV.pdf
