NEW YORK, Nov 6 (LSN) – The 1998 Revision of the World Population Estimates and Projections, released late last week by the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs indicated that 61 countries were in population decline. This alarming number of countries have reached below-replacement fertility levels (lower than 2.1 children per couple). A report from The Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute provided a commentary on the new demographics by Steven Mosher president of the Population Research Institute. Mosher said that “these census figures make it harder for the population controllers to exaggerate the number of people on the planet in years to come. The population of the world will never double again. We will only add 2 or 3 billion members of the human family before beginning what will be a wrenching decent.” See the UN population report at: www.undp.org/popin/
