MANAGUA, September 19, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), internationally known for its promotion of abortion, has signed deals with the governments of Pakistan and Nicaragua.

The Nicaraguan human rights defense office has signed an agreement with UNFPA to promote the sexual and reproductive rights of women, children and adolescents through a series of programs over the next four months. Managua’s La Prensa reported yesterday that The agreement was signed by human rights defender Benjamin Perez Fonseca and Tomas Jimenez Araya, a UNFPA representative in Nicaragua . The UNFPA will provide $4,800 for the office of special defense for women and $7,000 to the office of special defense for children and adolescents.

The cooperation between various elements of the Nicaraguan government and the UNFPA is startling considering the past strong pro-life stand of the country. However, in July the Nicaraguan government’s representatives to the United Nations slandered the Catholic Church saying, that “The Church publishes messages reinforcing attitudes and values that make women subordinate to men and discriminate against women.”

On Tuesday, Pakistan and UNFPA signed a $3.451 million deal focusing on “enforcement of activities to provide relevant information about family planning services.”
