WASHINGTON, Mar 28, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Pro-abortion Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) has introduced the “United Nations Population Fund Funding Act of 2001” in the U.S. House. Judie Brown, president of American Life League reacted to the announcement saying, “Congress must block funding for the United Nations Population Fund, an organization which wages a war of abortion and population reduction on the world’s most vulnerable women and children.”

Brown noted that the UNFPA is a principal provider of chemical abortion throughout the developing world, and is perhaps the strongest ally of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the world’s largest promoter of abortion. Brown recalled that during the height of Milosevic’s ethnic cleansing campaigns the media caught UNFPA collaborating with officials of the Milosevic regime to target Kosovar women (see: The Kosovo File:  https://www.pop.org/kosovo/kosovofile.htm).

“The UNFPA exists to deplete ‘unwanted’ populations, to provide chemical abortions and to run interference for China’s coercive family planning policy,” Brown said. “To even consider funding the UNFPA is an outrage to most Americans, who oppose abortion and overwhelmingly prefer that foreign aid cover such basics as clean water, and infant and maternal health.”

UNFPA received $25 million for fiscal year 2001. It was the first such allocation since funding was cut because of its involvement in China.
