ASUNCION, PARAGUAY, January 29, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which cooperates with China’s system of forced abortions as a means of population control, is celebrating the pending renewal of funding by the Obama Administration.

Under the administration of George Bush, the UNFPA was denied funds under the Mexico City Policy, which excluded overseas abortion providers and referrers from receiving US taxpayer dollars.

However, at the same time as he rescinded the Mexico City Policy last week, Obama said that he looked forward to working with Congress to restore the funding to the UNFPA, which he is expected to do in the next federal budget. The UNFPA will reportedly receive approximately $250 million in US taxpayer dollars annually, according to the La Nacion newspaper, based in Paraguay.

“The Executive Director of the UNFPA, Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, welcomed the decision to reestablish financing and highlighted the rapidity with which the matter has been handled,” said a recent UNFPA bulletin issued in Asunción, Paraguay, reported La Nacion.

“The decision of President Obama could not have arrived at a more critical moment,” said Obaid, claiming that the money would be used for medical help during childbirth and for “reproductive health” – a term often used by abortion proponents that encompasses abortion on demand.

Although the UNFPA claims to be neutral on abortion, a US probe carried out by the Bush administration in 2002 found that the organization was sending hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Chinese State Family Planning Commission (SFPC), which implements China’s coercive “one child policy.”

In China families having more than one child (or two if they live in rural areas) are sometimes given forced abortions, as well as pressured to abort with large fines that drive them into poverty.
