NEW YORK, December 19, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Still stinging from the loss of over thirty million dollars in funding from the United States due to its association with coercive abortion in China, the United Nations is launching a TV series to promote itself.  The United Nations Works campaign has announced that it will co-produce a 10-part ‘family’ television series to be broadcast on the Showtime network in the United States.

The series, set to premier Sunday January 19, 2003, is entitled “What’s going on?”.  Each half-hour episode will examine a critical global issue such as HIV/AIDS and be hosted by Hollywood stars such as Danny Glover and Michael Douglas.

Experienced UN watchers warn that the programmes will basically serve as pro-UN propaganda pieces replete with tear-jerking scenes of starvation and human misery.  Recent UN funding figures show that the organization has suffered economic setbacks in recent years most notably the loss of $34 million last year which was due to the United Nations Population Fund support for coercive abortion in China.  Scott Weinberg, spokesperson for the Population Research Institute (PRI) which exposed the UNFPA collusion with the Chinese coercive abortion regime, told LifeSite that while seething with anger towards the Bush administration, UNFPA is nonetheless desperate to have their funding reinstated.  “This seems to be another attempt to have Americans come back to supporting the United Nations.  Unfortunately, the United Nations refuses to correct or even distance itself from its radical population control arm UNFPA thus tainting the whole organization with China’s brutally enforced one-child policy.”  See the UN report on the series:  https://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=5697&Cr=xxx&Cr1=
