PITTSBURGH, PA, July 19 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A United Religions Initiative (URI) was officially “born” on June 26th with a signing ceremony of some 300 representatives from a great variety of religions – Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and New Age varieties. They joined together for “prayer” and “meditation” and signed the Charter of the URI. Commenting on the meeting a Focus on the Family report said that “the first concrete steps have been taken to forge a ‘one world’ religion.” Tal Brooke, of the Spiritual Counterfeits Project said that “It is, in many ways, our worst nightmare because it’s total syncretism.”

The effort is intimately tied to the United Nations and its noble sounding goals involve the working together of world religions for peace. However, the syncretic element is very evident and Brooke suggests that “It will really ultimately forbid any, what they would call ‘true-believing religion,’ from proselytizing their exclusive faith.”
