August 24, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Local chapters of the leading charity United Way throughout the United States donated nearly $2.8 million to Planned Parenthood affiliates in 2016, funding an estimated 2,901 abortions according to a new report from a conservative charity watchdog.

United Way’s website says the group’s mission is to improve people’s health, income, and education worldwide through a variety of charitable ventures and volunteer programs. It also maintains that “United Way Worldwide does not control funding decisions by local United Ways,” and less than 3% of those local chapters directly support Planned Parenthood facilities, or “less than one tenth of one percent of total United Way revenue.”

But this week’s numbers come from a report released this week by 2ndVote, which found that the amount of money chapters in 29 states gave to Planned Parenthood chapters went up by $166,000 from 2015 to 2016. Moreover, 2ndVote found that the chapters donating to the abortion giant comprise 4.9% of United Way chapters, higher than the percentage currently quoted on the organization’s website.

“Interestingly, four of the top five states in which abortion-funding United Way chapters are located are ‘battleground’ election states — Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida,” the report says. “Only New York breaks into the top five as a typically partisan liberal state.”

2ndVote also released a comprehensive breakdown of United Way chapters in every state, current as of August 21. It identifies which chapters did and did not donate per year dating back to tax year 2013, specific dollar amounts, which Planned Parenthoods received the donations, and totals per state.

Planned Parenthood received more than $543 million from the federal government, $318 million in private revenue, and more than $532 in private donations in fiscal year 2016-2017, according to its most recent annual report. It killed 321,384 preborn babies via abortion.

As the pro-life Radiance Foundation details, under the leadership of Planned Parenthood’s most recent CEO Cecile Richards, the abortions it performed rose almost 11% while actual medical services for women sharply declined. Breast cancer screenings dropped by 62%, pap tests by 72%, and prenatal care by 30%.

“This important research highlights just how irresponsible some corporations are,” 2ndVote said of its latest findings. “Donating to Planned Parenthood-supporting United Way chapters should make those chapters anathema to responsible corporate funders. Yet they slide on by.”
